Nigeria’s Stability at Risk if Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso Remain Under Military Rule – CDS Christopher Musa

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has warned that the country stands to lose significantly if Niger Republic, Mali, and Burkina Faso do not return to democratic governance.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Musa emphasized that leadership failures in these three West African nations could have direct consequences for Nigeria. He highlighted the challenges of widespread poverty, governance issues, climate change, and weak political structures as major concerns affecting the region.

According to Musa, the instability in these countries is spilling over into Nigeria, making national security efforts more difficult. He stressed the need for a stable and democratic government in each of these nations, as this would allow them to make informed decisions that contribute to regional peace and development.

"The truth is, these three countries must get their leadership right. Without democratic systems in place, their struggles will continue, and Nigeria will bear the impact," he stated.

With ongoing tensions and the increasing influence of military regimes in West Africa, do you think regional organizations like ECOWAS should intervene more actively to restore democracy? Or should Nigeria focus on strengthening its own borders first? Share your thoughts!
