Nnamdi Kanu Secures Legal Victory as Trial Reassigned to New Judge


According to The Nation, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has secured a significant legal victory as his trial has been reassigned to a new judge—fulfilling his long-standing request.

Kanu, who has been in a prolonged legal dispute with the Nigerian government, had repeatedly raised concerns over judicial bias. His legal team insisted that justice could only be served if the case was transferred to a neutral judge. “All we seek is a fair and impartial trial,” his lead counsel argued. “Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.”

However, government prosecutors downplayed the reassignment, emphasizing that it does not alter the case’s substance. “This is merely a procedural decision,” a prosecution lawyer stated. “The charges remain unchanged, and the trial will continue.”

Kanu’s legal team, meanwhile, expressed renewed confidence that the case will now be handled with greater objectivity. “We trust that justice will ultimately prevail,” a defense lawyer affirmed.
